International Students Volunteers - 2. grupa
Volonterski kamp 2010 - Gvozd
Hello, my name is Lauren Barry.
I am originally from Georgia in the United States. I spent my first year of school at Boston University and will be transferring to Seattle Pacific University in Washington State. I am studying to become a nurse because I am interested in medicine and helping people. I enjoy playing volleyball, basketball, traveling and spending time with friends. I heard about International Student Volunteers when representatives came to my school last fall and talked about. I thought it would be a great experience to meet new people, learn about a different culture, and make a difference. I had a wonderful time in Gvozd and will remember this trip for a long time and all my new friends I made.
Hey everyone,
My name is Máiréad O' Gorman and I am from Limerick, Ireland. I am nineteen years old and I am studying English, Irish, Maths and Geography in the National University of Galway. I came to Gvosd because I love children and I really enjoyed playing all the games with the children. I also wanted to experience a different culture and different traditions and living in Gvozd for two weeks allowed me to get a taste of a different, more sustainable way of living. I really lenjoyed living in Gvozd and I want to thank you all for welcoming me into yer village, everyone was very friendly. I might be back again some day.
Would you be able to send me on the recipes whenever you get the chance? The adventure tour was so much fun, The boat cruise was amazing and the food was lovely. I did stuff I thought I would never do since I am afraid of heights like paragliding, jumping off waterfalls, repelling down 50metre mountains, I don't think any height could scare me anymore!! How were the other volunteers that came?
Hi! My name is Kayla Wiest.
I'm 20 years old. I'm currently a Junior at Arizona State University studying Political Science and History. In my free time I enjoying reading, being outdoors and shopping. I came to Gvozd to experience a culture different than my own and because I love working with kids. I've learned so much and can't thank you enough for allowing me to stay in such a wonderful town and work alongside such special children.
Thanks for everything Maja! I'll never forget what a special experience this was!
Hello, my name is Denise Castellanos.
I derive from California in the United States of America. I am a student of environmental engineering at College of the Canyons and I intend to transfer to UC Berkeley to further my studies. I came to Gvozd with the intention to learn things that I likely wouldn't know how to learn back home without the guidance of our project leader Maja Turniski. I am incredibly grateful to have been given the opportunity to stay in this town and meet the many amazing children that make up the town's youth. I myself am still young and the hidden messages that the children were meant to teach me may take some time to truly manifest but when that day comes I will convert the energy behind those messages into the motivation and will necessary to keep pushing to change the world for the better.
Thanks to everyone.
Dobor dan!
I'm Alasdair Wood, age 19 and from Glasgow in Scotland. I'm halfway through university studying Accounting and Economics and in my spare time I like going to concerts, playing the violin and following football (my favourite team is Glasgow Celtic!).
I really enjoyed my 2 weeks in Gvozd - talking to and playing with all of the kids made me feel 10 years younger! I've taken home a lot of things I learned in Gvozd, for example, I have all of my friends playing Kames...although it didn't take them very long to get better than me. Even if my card playing skills didn't improve, all those days on the football pitch have turned me into a star striker among my friends, so I'm grateful to all the guys for a few challenging games.
I chose to come to Croatia to meet new people and experience a different way of life. In Gvozd, the children and staff made both of these so easy and I'd love to return one day to be part of the community again"
